Brother and Sister Knights and Friends;

Brothers and Sisters;

        This month we are recognizing two of our chapter members on their retirement from their respective departments.

        The first is Chief William F. LEWIS is retiring after 35 years as a police officer and 21 years in the military for a total of 56 years in uniform serving to the people of this country and Pennsylvania.  That is a very impressive record.

       Chief William F. LEWIS, typically known as ‘Chief Lewis’ to the people of Greene County began his career in 1953 when he joined the Marine Corp, he continued in the military and retired in September, 1974.

       Immediately after retiring from the military he began his police career in Greene County.  Bill was a police officer in Carmichaels Boro for 6 years before joining the Cumberland Township police department, serving as chief for many years until his retirement in May of this year.  Bill and his wife Mary are also Deputy Coroners for Greene County

      Chief LEWIS and his wife of 53 years, Mary, have a large and loving family, composed of 8 children and 17 grandchildren.  They reside in Cumberland Township where they will continue to serve their community even into their retirement.

  Chief Lewis was recognized for his years of service and dedication to the community by Capt. Sheldon Epstein and Sgt. Kevin Kolson at a State police retirement dinner held on May 8th, 2009.

         The second is Sgt. James HANNA of the Canonsburg Police Department.  Jim joined the Canonsburg Police Department in August of 1978 and retired in October of 2008.

         Jim was a shift Sergeant and the departments range master and defensive tactics trainer.  He was a Certified Crime prevention Officer and conducted numerous seminars on defensive tactics for women through the department’s crime prevention efforts seminars.

         Jim is the owner of HANNA’s Self-defense in Canonsburg and is a ‘Black Belt’ in Kenpo Jiu Jitsu.

         Jim is married to Joanne ‘Dodie’ Hanna and they have a son, Joshua.

        Following his retirement Jim took a job with Washington County Domestic Relations as a life skills counselor.

We wish both men the best on their retirements.
