Brothers and Sisters;
This month we are
recognizing two of our chapter members on their retirement
from their respective departments.
The first is Chief
William F. LEWIS is retiring after 35 years as a police
officer and 21 years in the military for a total of 56 years
in uniform serving to the people of this country and
Pennsylvania. That is a very impressive record.
Chief William F. LEWIS,
typically known as ‘Chief Lewis’ to the people of Greene
County began his career in 1953 when he joined the Marine
Corp, he continued in the military and retired in September,
1974.
Immediately after retiring
from the military he began his police career in Greene
County. Bill was a police officer in Carmichaels Boro for 6
years before joining the Cumberland Township police
department, serving as chief for many years until his
retirement in May of this year. Bill and his wife Mary are
also Deputy Coroners for Greene County
Chief LEWIS and his wife of
53 years, Mary, have a large and loving family, composed of 8
children and 17 grandchildren. They reside in Cumberland
Township where they will continue to serve their community
even into their retirement.

The second is Sgt. James HANNA of the Canonsburg Police
Department. Jim joined the Canonsburg Police Department in
August of 1978 and retired in October of 2008.
Jim was a shift Sergeant
and the departments range master and defensive tactics
trainer. He was a Certified Crime prevention Officer and
conducted numerous seminars on defensive tactics for women
through the department’s crime prevention efforts seminars.
Jim is the owner of
HANNA’s Self-defense in Canonsburg and is a ‘Black Belt’ in
Kenpo Jiu Jitsu.
Jim is married to Joanne
‘Dodie’ Hanna and they have a son, Joshua.
Following his retirement
Jim took a job with Washington County Domestic Relations as a
life skills counselor.
We wish both men the best on
their retirements.
